The Mayor of Middlesbrough Sir William Crosthwaite wants 10,000 pounds and he wants it at once.
To his fellow citizens he make this confident appeal for generous help to provide a fund for the relief of those who may suffer injury or be left homeless by the bombs of the Nazi raiders.
The Emergency Committee are empowered to provide shelter and food for air raid victims, but the scope of their assistance falls short of that generous measure of which humanity demands.
The Mayor intends that every victim shall be properly cared for housed and fed.
He proposes to raise a fund for that purpose, and since practice is better than precept he has given a donation of 1,000 pounds.
Others are asked to subscribe according to their means. The slogan for all is "GIVE GENEROUSLY AND GIVE PROMPTLY."
