I can't remember the exact details, but my Grandad was out celebrating on the streets on VE day. Pieces of shrapnel had been put on the tramlines as a celebration, when a tram ran over one and flicked it up into the air. It hit my grandad right next to the eye and gave him a nasty slash. He had to be rushed to hospital, and still carries the scar to this day.
I know, that may not be the most interesting war story ever, but I find it quite funny.
