The first night that I remember my first flying bombs I spent in our own house. At the time it was a frightening experience. This all seemed to happen about 10 'o' clock in the evening. The sirens had gone about an hour earlier and we decided that we would stay in our own house that evening. My parents decided at the time that as a precaution we would transfer the bed clothes from the top of the bed to under the bed. So my sister and myself we were durely shoved under the bed where we were to spend the night. There were alot of flying bombs going over that evening, fortunatley most of them had gone by where we actually lived. At 10 'o' clock a flying bomb was approaching when the engine stopped about 200 yards away and we thought that was going to be our turn. All went quiet for a few moments and then we could hear the sound of this flying bomb approaching the ground very quickly. The bomb hit the ground a 100 yards away from where we were sheltering with an enormous explosion.Every window in our house and houses around about were completely shattered. The bomb created a vast amount of damage we were the fortunate ones who were saved that night by being under a old iron bedstead. There were approximately between 150 people killed in that particular incident so we were the lucky ones!End of story!
