We were bombed out twice during the war. The first time was when we lived at Thorpedale Road, Finsbury Park. We weren't hurt. But I spent the night in the hospital. My brother was ill with pneumonia, and mum and dad went to be with him. I had my longest night, feeling abandoned.
As a Clerk of Works Dad went all over the place. We'd been in :Leicester where my brother was born. Now with our place in ruins we went up to Stoke on Trent to live, and he had work supervising clearing up rubble. They used Italian POWs to help with the job. Still, we were again bombed out, and went to Blackburn.
At the end of the war I can remember being taken to the big central victory parade and seeing lots of people marching past.
