I first found out about the war while trying on a Gasmask.I can remember feeling that my face was boxed in and scared that we had to carry them around with us all the time, even at bed time because the raids always seemed to come at night.
One night my Dad and I stood in the doorway while a raid was going on watching the incendries drop in the gardens opposite burning themselves out. At the time I relished seeing all the flames but later on I realised that it was serious and became frightened.
Another time I was coming home from school for dinner and the sirensounded, so being young I ran out to see what was going to happen.
Plenty of planes flying around dropping land mines. A sad day because my best friend's house got the full blast of a land mine, killing all the people in the block.
Looking up into the sky I saw two planes flying around. A 'Dogfight ' was taking place. The enemies plane was eventually shot down but it took half an hour of exciting watching. The place where the plane crashed was quickly covered over by the police because of the debris left behind.
