My mother lived in Bethnal Green, East London, throughout the war. Of all the horrific and humerous stories that she tells, the most touching is the morning after the Tube station disaster.
Mother was a machinist making service uniforms and was about 15/16 at the time.
The morning after the disaster she said that there were a number of unmanned machines. As the morning wore on it became apparent that they were the victims of the crush.
She must have been deeply affected by it because after the Southall train crash she was reminded of Bethnal Green when the news showed the unrecovered cars at Reading station car park.
Mother is still living and 77 years young. Does anyone out there remember her?
