I got married to Peggy in 1944 in Wilmington Church. There was an unexploded bomb in the vicinity and the vicar told us we would be getting married at our own risk.

My wife worked as a supervisor in the ironing room at James Bentley Laundry in Wilmington. All the staff where she worked gave us rations as wedding presents.
