"This story was submitted to the People's War site by CSV/´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Nottingham on behalf of Margaret Wallace and Estriana Thompson with their permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions"

Some young men (18 to 30 years old) were recruited to come to England to fight I know that some didn’t come back, their mothers just got letter to tell them.
Some of the men who were 30 — 40 years old were recruited as ‘War Men Power’ to serve in America — as the American men were away fighting and they didn’t have enough men to work in the factories. So they recruited men from Jamaica — my father went and worked on building ships. Me and my mother and our family were left on our own.
