Some young men (18 to 30 years old) were recruited to come to England to fight I know that some didn’t come back, their mothers just got letter to tell them.
Some of the men who were 30 — 40 years old were recruited as ‘War Men Power’ to serve in America — as the American men were away fighting and they didn’t have enough men to work in the factories. So they recruited men from Jamaica — my father went and worked on building ships. Me and my mother and our family were left on our own.
