I have recently lost both my mother & father, Ron & Mary Stone, and have been going through all their personal papers.
My father was in the Grenadier Guards and was at D Day and mentioned in despatches.
They married in 1942 and literally days later Ron was posted back to barracks. I came across a couple of their letters and they are truly moving. They paint a picture of what life must have been like, their hopes, fears & wishes for the future.
My father didn't mention the war much, just bits here & there. He was asked to write his recollections for the Guards but unfortunately he had a fall and thus started a fairly rapid decline.
Unfortunately, he is no longer around to ask.
I have lots of grainy photos - they were all just boys.
