I see the plane
and recall the name
and I wonder which one of the crew
gave her the name Sierra Sou.
A beautiful female figue
was painted on her side
The number of bombing runs they made
was displayed there with great pride.
So brave those boys and yet so young
who did all they were asked to do
they laid their lives upon the line
and prayed they would all come through.
I wonder what became of them
did they have to pay the price?
that we might live in freedom
and a belief that they were right
I pray that they survived the war
and have wives and families too
and tell them of the Lancaster
whose name was "Sierra Sou"
Written by Minnie Gilmour who saw this plane at RAF Leeming quite often when she was passing on her way to work and has always wondered what became of the crew who flew in her.
