Location: Bethnal Green Underground Station - Local Shelter. Approx 1942/43.
My mum and Aunt were heading for the shelter, when other people came rushing towards them in an alarmed and shocked state telling them not to go there. Someone had fallen on the steps and consequently lots of people had been trampled and killed in the rush to get into the shelter quickly. today there is a plaque commemorating the tragedy at the station.
Approx 1944 - My grandad was walking past a cinema in London. Fire fighters were there, as a bomb had dropped two streets away. The blast had taken the breath out of the people, they still sat as if they were watching the film, but they were all dead, and when a fireman touched them they disentigrated.
Approx 1943 - My Husbands story, his dad Leonard was night work and in bed when he heard a child shout "it's coming down" as the noise had stopped. He dived under his bed just as the front walls of his house caved in over his bed. (Doodle bug). That child saved Brian's dad.
Edward Lampey was (May) Muriels Grandad, his (Leonard) brother was Frederick. Violet and Alice were Grandads daughters and my mum was Alice Mary. Muriels cousins were John, Lenny, Jackie
