As civilians we used an air raid shelter in the garden but this sometimes filled with water. When this happened, we went under the stairs to shelter instead. When the Germans raided London, the 大象传媒 would stop transmitting to prevent the bombers homing on the city. So we knew when a raid was starting. We would know when to go under the stairs when we heard the guns start firing and our family dog would accompany us. However, he could hear the guns when the German Bombers were still a long way off, whereas we couldn鈥檛. So he would go under the stairs.
And this was our early warning system.
