I was about three and I was bombed out 3 times. In New Cross where we lived we could hear the doodle bugs coming over. When the engines stopped, you knew it was coming down. My mum grabbed me as I was riding my trike and pushed me under the table. It fell in the park next door (Pepy鈥檚 park). The roof of the house shifted. I can remember my mother could not get the door open and I remember being lifted through the broken glass.
I remember looking at the road outside which was now up in the middle leaving a huge crack. We had to move yet again as a fire bomb had set the roof alight in Catford S.E. London. I was in a cot and looked at the ceiling afterwards and asked my mum why it was now black. We then had a Morrison shelter (table) and I remember being in that. My grand farther was an Air raid warden and went on duty every night. I can also remember very strongly being taken to the station to see my dad off. After his leaving I only saw him twice in 4 陆 years. I was about 18months to 2 years but I remember all the solders leaning out off the windows.
