Charles Croxon was my uncle. He rose to the rank of sergeant and I know he fought in France. Charles and my father Wilfred refused their medals for two reasons:
Firstly because they were disillusioned with the country on their demob and secondly because their names were not on the circumference of their medals, unlike the World war I medals. They would have got the General Service medal and my father would have received the Burma Star.

They never spoke about the war. I always thought my father was in the army until I came across a photograph (about five years ago) and found his war records, only to find that he was in the RAF. He was a tail gunner in India and Burma.
