On the day that war was declared miss Ricketts was only 7 she was on holiday with her parents in littlehampton. They were sitting on the beach eating ice-cream and a police man on a bike rode by telling them that war had been declared.
Her aunt had had a daughter during the first world war whilst her uncle was in france at passchenale where he was awarded a military medal then he received a bar her cousin died in 1933 but during the second world war the aunt had another daughter with 25 years between the two children.
In 1943 she had to take a scholarship exam and was given a place in latymers in edmundson. Miss rickets knows what the story is used for.
