Some comments about the war at a recent coffee morning held at Boscombe library.
Roma said that during the war a friend of hers was a "Railings girl". They used to persuade people to part with their fences and railings for the war effort. It took a lot of diplomacy so the women were chosen very carefully.
Edwin went to school at Walton on the Naze. His father was a coast guard on the east coast. edwin went into the Navy, like his two brothers. He travelled to the Far East and on convoys across the Atlantic to Canada. although attacked on a number of occasions, sometimes by submarines, he was never injured. His brothers survived the war as well.
