I had an Uncle Billy who was in the Royal Engineers and escaped from France with the BEF. However, he left from Le Havre instead of Dunkirk.
He recalled that, while at the railway station, the men were strafed by Stukas first on one side of the platform, and then when the men had dashed to the other side, the planes returned and strafed that side as well.
He returned safely to Britain and came through the war, being promoted from 2nd Lieutenant to Major. He died three years ago, aged 92.
