We lived in Back to Back houses during the war. We had iron bedsteads because of the bugs — they couldn’t get in the steel. We moved 6 times — Summer Hill, Summer Lane. Everyone had mice — you couldn’t get rid of them. Everyone had bugs. They would send men to fumigate your house. They would burn sulphur candles. All the windows and doors would have to be shut.
