My grandma was a messenger in the air raid wardens post(A.R.P.for short). They helped the wardens by keeping the wardens in touch with other posts if phones were not working properly we did the runing around. We helped the men checking the black outs. Elderly people who could not get to the shelters we checked that they were safely under the stairs or a table with their blankets and drinks. Their buckets had to be full of water sand in case of fires with the incendiary bombs falling. I had to findone old mans cat nad its kittens which were under the stairs that had collapsed They were fine but a bit dusty.
