Wimbledon 1943/44.
I lived in Wimbledon during this period as a child of 8/9 years old.
I was crossing the railway via a road bridge one day on my way to meet my mother from her work at the isolation hospital.
I heard a flying bomb overhead and started to run across the road towards the bridge
I heard people shouting to come back, but the bomb cut out and exploded on the railway flyover and I was blown back across the road.
As a result of the explosion several houses were damaged and also the isolation hospital suffered some minor damage.
I consider myself very lucky not to sustain any injuries, but I was shocked.
I heard people shouting out to ask if I was alright and to come back but all I wanted to do was find my mother to know that she was safe.
