I was 14 when war broke out and worked at William Prettys. The factory started to run down though because of shortages.

I was evacuated with my brother to Leicester but we returned because we weren鈥檛 happy.

I remember hearing about the bouncing bomb, and the landmine that failed to explode in Cemetery Road. The army blew that one up.

We lived in Samuel Road and I worked at Buntons Jam Factory, and then at Churchmans.

I remember sitting on the stairs with my brother listening to the Doodlebugs.

My husband lived five doors down from us, and was later called up to the Royal Engineers. He went to Belsen, but never discussed it.
