We lived near Salford Docks as it was drummed into parents to evacuate their children, I was evacuated with my siblings to Lancaster. There were 4 of us (3 sisters and a brother). We went to Lancaster and sat down in a church hall as people came to pick out their choice. They picked the other ones first. The older sister was picked out first, but would not go without the two younger sisters. She insisted that all sisters stayed together, and we did, and found my brother a farm, and a lady at the back of their billet who would look after my brother. She wanted to adopt him! My sister came home at 14, my other sister and me stayed on, but cried so much we had to come home. We came home as the bombing started.
