My friend and I collected money. My granny gave me a table cloth that she had made. We raffled it to raise money and sent it to Mrs Churchill. She sent us a thank you letter - dated February 1943 from 10 Downing Street. I still have the letter and she wrote that she would use our money to 'help the brave Russians' signed Clementine Churchill. I was 12 years old at the time.
