At four years old I was warned not to go to the top field of the farm, we lived there to be close to my father who was posted in an RAF base nearby, because there were Italian prisoners of war working on the farm. Eventually I plucked up the courage and succumbed to curiosity and took myself to the top field. I crept through the hedge to look at them, thinking they had two heads and covered in swastikas. I was very disappointed to find they were just normal human beings.
