I was home on leave from the WAAF and was in my bedroom in Worthing. I looked out of the window and saw a German aircraft flying just above the hedge. I could see the pilot sitting in the cockpit.
Suddenly a bomb was released and I flew downstairs. My mother afterwards said she had never seen me move so quickly. But the bomb did not go off. It was found to be filled with sand with a message from the people of Czechoslovakia.

Message 1 - Incident at Worthing - feedback

Posted on: 20 January 2004 by Carey - WW2 Site Helper

Hallo! I'm Carey, one of the Writing Buddies here at the WW2 site.

Thank you for your story -- how very strange!

Don't please stop there! It would be lovely if you wrote some more about your experiences in the WAAF, when you joined up, what your duties were.

Now your story is awfully intriguing -- what was the message? Was this unique, do you know? I find it rather astonishing that a German bomb had a note from Czechslovakia in it -- do please tell more.

If you yourself are a bit baffled by it, you might contact one of our researchers and ask if anything like this happened elsewhere in Great Britain.

It would also be lovely if you would write about yourself on your personal page, a short biography, and perhaps more information about your WAAF details -- many visitors to the site look at our contributors' personal pages, and perhaps someone else who served with you might recognise you name, and perhaps be inspired to write her story as well!

Thank you very much!

cheers,
Carey
