I was a child when the war was on. At the beginning of the war we only had to go to school for half a day. I remember them digging up our playground to put in an air raid shelter. The warnings would sound and we'd scuttle underground. We used to play games down there. I remember a nursery rhyme called the Golden Goose; we all used to follow the one who was the goose in a big long line. It took our minds off anything that might be happening above.
