My husband's brother-in-law is 89 years old and lives in New Dehli India, I always new that he was a retired Colonel from the Indian Army. He was commissioned whilst it was the British Indian Army. When he came to visit the U.K. in 2001 he told me that he was in the Intelligence corp in North Africa with the British Army in WW2 He indicated that there was also some sort of conference at the King David's Hotel in Jerusalem. After serving in North Africa he went to Italy, then Britain. India made a massive contribution to the war effort in terms of millions of men and indian taxpayers money.

Message 1 - Indian Army

Yorkshire Air Museum.
I was interested in your contribution regarding the efforts made by the Indian peoples in the first and second world wars.
I served with the Indian Army during the second world war. Very little has been said about India's contribution. May I direct you to my personal: page and you may well be interested in the small stories I have contributed to the site recently. I feel very strongly about the lack of knowledge of the contribution made by the peoples of India. Please let me have your feedback on my small contribution.
Regards,
John Absolon

Message 2 - Indian Army

hi john,

i saw your comment here about the indian army and both my son(16) and i agree.after a battledress came into our hands with a red eagle patch on we sought to find out more, we quickly discovered it was the famous 4th indian division however trying to find more info was very hard and we feel dissapointed that they seem to be forgotten now, that is why we are now putting on small static displays at 1940's events telling people about the division and it's men, we have also started a web site that is just in it's infancy but where we hope to put up all the information about the division we discover, rest assured we hope to do our bit to have the men of indias contribution to victory recognised. 4thindians.co.uk
