My name is Maureen Parry and this is a story that my husband, Kenneth Parry, who died twenty years ago, told me. I was a child during the war but he was a bomber command officer, a Flight Lieutenant, and he trained in Canada, in the frozen north where eyelashes used to freeze! Canada took our boys over to train. He had to go down to Florida with all the rest of them, and this was going to take them three days and two nights on a train. When they were going to cross into America, they were issued with grey suits as America wasn鈥檛 in the war. So there they were, all ready to put on these grey suits and that morning, someone came round the corridor and said, 鈥淚t鈥檚 all right, boys, you haven鈥檛 got to change. The Japs have bombed Pearl Harbour and the Yanks are in the war.鈥 So he was actually there at the time America entered the war.
