It was a VE Day Street Party and I was told Dad was coming home. But I didn't know who he was. I also have a very vague memory of the streets around Godalming being full of lorries & tanks before D Day and there were Soilders everywhere.

In those days pratically every man was in uniform. I don't remember any bombs, apart from the bomb sites that were everywhere in London.

When my Mum said she was going to Bond Street, I thought she said 'Bombed Street' and it had been bombed.
