Phyllis
It was when the V1s were coming over and we were still living in Streatham at no 25 Stockport Road, when we heard a V1 come over. The engines cut out. My Aunt Phyllis, who was in the ATS at that time, was playing the piano in the front room. My mother and I screamed at Phyllis ‘Come on into the air raid shelter!’. The V1 went over and crashed into the River Graveney. At the same time, whilst shouting at Phyllis, she went to the kitchen door. The front door blew open and the blast picked Phyllis up bodily, with our old tin bath following her down the garden. She hit the Anderson shelter and the bath followed, hitting her. Luckily Phyllis was not hurt!
