This story was submitted to the Peoples War site by Jas from Global Information Centre Eastbourne and has been added to the website on behalf of Mrs Morgan with her permission and she fully understands the site鈥檚 terms and conditions

In about 1944, I was called up and billeted to Waddon near Croydon with a retired lady who lived in an upstairs flat.

To have a bath one had to heat water up in a big gas geyser, which took too long, so to save time, I decided to wash at the kitchen sink.

This meant I had to strip off and the sink was positioned under a big window, which was not overlooked by anybody.

So there I was stripped off and ready to wash when I saw a doodlebug coming straight for the window.

All I could think was to put my hands together and pray,
鈥淧lease God let it keep going鈥 鈥 鈥淚 can鈥檛 be found like this as I have no clothes on!鈥

Fortunately my number wasn鈥檛 up. Not long after I heard the explosion as it landed
