Two German spies were caught in the local area. The sky over Stanground was black. One man was standing on Peterborough Town Bridge, sketching, and was arrested. The other was in a derelict farm, and had broken his leg on landing. He shot his pistol to gain attention, and gave himself up.

Another time a Frenchman, one of our allies, landed a single-engined plane and asked for directions. Then he took off again.

At Popples Farm near Peterborough a pilot had run out of fuel. Another plane landed and supplied some fuel, but then took off and knocked a chimney-pot off.
