I had ten changes of school in ten years--is this a world record? It was all due to WW2, evacuation and bombing etc. My childhood was split between East London (Woolwich), Epsom, Lake District, Maidstone and Paignton, finally returning home to find my parents as strangers. Evacuation did not, however, prevent me from witnessing the Blitz, suffering air-raids in Kent and experiencing the doodlebug offensive.
