Hello,
My name is Claude Branson Jr. My father was Claudius Branson. I would love to retrieve information about my father when he was in WWII.
The only story that I was old enough to remember was the one about the German soldier who tried to help my father when he was in the POW Camp, by sneaking him minimal amount of food whenever possible. I would like to know what POW Camp he was in. He told me he and his Sargeant were in a fox hole they were in the line of fire, his Sargeant got killed and the captured him and took him to a POW Camp to work on a farm. I previously read about another soldier who worked on a farm by reading his daily journal he kept while also being held captive. My father ( CLaudius Branson ) also received a Purple Heart for doing a heroic act in which I also know nothing about. There were also other honors he received but I can only specify the Purple Heart. The reason I only know so little about his time in Germany was because it was so painful for him and too horribly graphic for a child to hear. By the time I was old enough to understand about the war he was talking about, he was killed in an automobile accident. He has only one brother surviving. His name is Arnold Branson Jr. He was in WWII also. He was on the Third Armor 32nd Tank. He was stationed in Germany at the same time as Elvis Presley. But Elvis was discharged due to everyone wanting his autograph.. Any information would be greatly appreciated.. He was President of The Rotary Club of Hazard, Ky in 1966. He was Captain of The Fire and Rescue Squad of Vicco and Carrs Fork for about 4 years. He was employed by East Kentucky Beverage Company of Hazard Pepsi Cola Company. He was a Supervisor for about 5 years a very hard worker. He never saw a stranger. Everyone who was aquainted with him held the upmost admiration for such a humble man.
