My maiden name is Beryl Collier. The war affected me from the age of 4 - 9 but I was not aware of a war at the beginning as I was so young. I lived with my parents in Farnborough, Kent. During the war my father was in the RAF working on aircraft ground maintainence . His name was Arthur (Charles) Collier and between the wars and after WW2 he drove the No. 47 bus between Shoreditch and Farnborough. My mother's name was Mabel (nee Quested).
I had an older brother - he was about 14 when the war broke out. His name was Dennis Collier. He ran away to join the Merchant Navy when he was 16 and unfortunately the ship he was on was torpedoed and we never saw him again.
When I was about 5 my mother and I had to go to Belfast, Northern Ireland because my Dad had to go into hospital there. We stayed in a house in a road which was very badly bombed.
I was evacuated to Morfa Nevin, North Wales when I was about 8 (1943) and was lucky enough to stay with a very kind couple for about 1 year. I think their name was Morgan or Morris.
I would be very interested to hear about anyone who went through similar things or who remembers me or any of my family.
