We were a large family by the end of WW2 (11 children, sadly during the intervening years both our parents and three brothers have died.
Life as one might imagine as a large working class family was never easy was nevert easy.
on the first day family allowance was paid out,our mother was first in the queue, when asked by a local paper what she thought about family allowance, she was quoted as saying "It's manner from heaven mate"!
Another memorable pay day, was when a large manufacturer of home products, asked to use our family's photo in one of their adverts.
I became extremely embarassed, travelling to work on the train, another passenger's paper opposite me, had almost a quarter page spread, of our family's photo, headlined PINE DISINFECTANT WORKS FOR THIS FAMILY!
