Together with my mother and with my two years younger sister I spend over three years in Japanese internment camps on the island of Java during WW2. Around the Japanese surrender I turned ten. Now I'm nearing seventy. Our camps were: Baros-Willemstraat in Tjimahi, Bloemenkamp, lower and upper Tjihapit in Bandoeng as well as Kampong Makassar near Batavia. I have many recollections of those camps, be it from the mind and impression point of a boy between seven and ten. Still I think that I can contribute to the questions or part of these that some of you might have.
At present I am trying to reconstruct the layout and exact location of Kampong Makassar. Ther are some publications on these matters available, but they are still of a best-guess nature. I have some questions pending on this subject. But in the first place I would like to know the exact place and location of the main gate of Kampong Makassar. Best regards, Oebi.
