Len East was my cousin. He sent this account to my family during his war-time service on a mine-sweeper.
His home was in East Ham in East London. He returned from leave to find his house completely destroyed by a land-mine and his father, mother, brother and sister dead in the wreckage. He eventually resumed life in post-war England and returned to live in his home town. Through the loving care and support of friends at East Ham Methodist Church he went on to marry and to serve the local community. He died of a heart attack in his late seventies, while returning from a re-union with some of his war time comrades.
