My interest started after asking my father to write down for me, his part in the second world war, so that I could add it to our family tree that I'd started researching in 2000 after taking a well earned early retirement at the age of 50.
He had never realy spoken at length about his time in the war and I had no idea that he had been at Kohima during that dreadful siege.
I was so affected by what he had written that I made it into a small book of his memories from call-up through India, Burma to demob in Surrey. The book is called, "60 Years Ago" as he titled it and holds a place with all our family.
A short extract from the chapter "Kohima" I have added to this site.
During 2004 I asked my mother if she would write down some memories of her time in the ATS which she did and I have added these to the site.
