Arthur was 8 when the WW2 started and was promptly evacuated to a Quaker family in Somerset, where he stayed for three and a half years. His dramatic story of his experiences as a bullied child at school, for living with a conciencious objector, is graphically told in his 400 page book "A Stranger And Afraid", published on line at www.bewrite.net ISBN 1-904224-31-8.
He wrote the book for his Grandchildren to help with their school work and he recalls that although he saw his Mother for just two half days in three years, he gradually grew to adore the countryside and the people around him. Recently, he met one of the teachers featured in the book.
Being retired, Arthur has found short story writing to his liking and one example is the three chapters of "The Age Of Fear" on this website telling of his encounter with a doodle bug, leading to his second evacuation.
