I was born in Yorkshire in 1930. My parents and I moved to Liverpool just after my fifth birthday.

In the spring of 1940 my brother was born and like most war babies grew up in a world where food was scarce, very basic but wholesome — no sugary sweets, sticky puddings, biscuits etc. The government provided, free of charge; cod liver oil and concentrated orange juice to all infants. Those born at this time developed, and many still do have, good teeth.

In 1951 after training I became a teacher and apart from some years away from teaching to bring up my three children, I taught until I retired in 1995 aged sixty-five.

I have been widowed twice. Apart from my own three children, I have two lovely stepdaughters. I have nine grandchildren and two great great—grandchildren with another on the way.
