My interest in WW2 is because, to me, it's "living history".
My parents, my grandparents and all my elder relatives lived through those times.
I was born in the late fifties and therefor grew up in the generation that knew WW2 as recent history and was always aware of those events.
In fact, my father (born July 1926) landed with The Black Watch on Sword Beach, as you can see, he wasn't eighteen on D-Day.
I strongly feel that history should record the memories of the ordinary "folk" involved as well as the official history.
I think that this project is well worth the effort of all those involved and will stand as an important historical undertaking.
Now to myself:
I'm a 47 year old Scot living in the Glasgow area, at the age of eighteen I "took the shilling" and spent the next twelve years in the service of The Crown (REME).
I now work as a LGV driver operating a "lorry loader" vehicle (one with a crane on the waggon).
I also have an interest, nay passion, for the songs that servicemen (and women) sang in "Battles, Barracks and Bars" and maintain a website that has the lyrics (and some midi files) of those songs.
Aw ra best
