My Mother's name is Jean Lloyd. Her family are from the Enfield area. My Mother was 10 years old when the war broke out and she was evacuated to Walton On Naze along with a younger sister. Their older brother was sent to Clacton.
After a year the children were allowed to return home, but later were very nearly part of an evacuation to Canada. But for a childhood illness of one of them, they would have been on board a British ship that was torpedoed by the Germans.
My Mother would love to know what happeend to the family who fostered her and her sister. The Harvey's lived across the street from the school where Mr. Harvey was custodian. It may have been located on Stanley Street, Walton on Naze. The Harvey's had one son named Rodney who was in a branch of the armed services.
My Mother remembers how kind this family was to two little girls who were separated from their loved ones by difficult circumstances.
