My fathers name is John"jack"Gray who is from southshields where he was an apprentise joiner before joining the BEF in 1939 in normandy in France.He was in the 7th reserve m/t(motor transport) company which throughout the war was attached to many different unit,regiments and armies. After his evacuation from france on the 18th june 1940 from St.Malo he was sent to N.Africa to fight with Monty(in fact monty had not even got there yet).Then he fought in Italy (monti casino and other places)and then sent back to england to take part in the d-day landings on "gold" beach.Finally finishing his fighting in germany.My father is now 86 years old and although frail has just completed a comemorative trip to normandy.If anyone remembers my father or served with him please contact me.
