I grew up in the 1970s, surrounded by boys' comics, toys, and Airfix kits which rehearsed endless stories of 'The War' through which our parents had themselves grown up.
I think it's this that gave me my fascination with World War 2 and particularly with our view of it today.
The Bible was filmed as the 'Greatest Story Ever Told'; those who accept this title might admit the events of 1939-45 make a good second. The conflict not only affected, but controlled, the lives of virtually everyone in the UK and the majority of the world, including millions of people shipped around the globe to fight and die in their world's farthest corners.
My particular interests include films made during and since about the war, and the Pacific campaign, which I think has influenced US mythology and policy ever since.
