I was born and lived in Fenham Barracks Newcastle-upon-Tyne, in 1928, my Father was a Sergeant in The Coldstream Guards, he was recruiting sergeant for the regiment, in Newcastle for many years, hence the reason for me being born in Married Quarters. I lived there until I was six years old, then moved into Fenham.
I attended Wingrove School, Hadrian Road, Fenham, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, from where I was Evacuated from in 1939, at the outbreak of the second world war.
