Bernard (Bob) Hope
I am 68 years old (69 in May 2004) and was born in Battersea London.
At the start of WW2 I lived with my parents and two brothers and a sister, all older than me, in Brooklands Street, Lambeth.
I started school in Thessaly Road but early in the war we were bombed out when a land mine fell on the corner of Brooklands Street totally demolishing about six houses.
We moved to Wandsworth Road (507) where we were again bombed out.
From there we went to Courland Street and finally to Belmore Street.
Duringthe war we were evacuated to three locations, Horley, Surrey, Cambridge, Balsham in Suffolk.
From 1943 to the end of the war I was in London and spent many months between September 1939 and 1943 in London in between evacuation.
My memories are sketchy but some incidents stand out, I guess because of the immense trauma they produced
