My father, who is now 78 years old, fought in the war and unfortunately now has dementia and is not as lucid as he used to be, so any information I get from him now is not reliable. I want to know what the D in D-Day stands for. I remember him telling me that VE Day was Victory in Europe, but I cannot remember what D-Day was. Can anyone help?
I would also like to hear from anyone who served in the Royal Ulster Rifles during the war who may know my Dad as I would love for him to meet any old friends he may have lost touch with. My father was from Islington and not Irish at all, but for some reason went into that regiment!
