I am Irene Chenery, nee Scott, born in 1940 in Dulwich, London. My father, a master plasterer, and general builder worked for the Dulwich College Estates, and during the war was in the National Fire Service, based at 47 station in Lordship Lane.
I am a retired teacher(deputy head), and married to Robert, a retired head of development at London Tourist Board. We have 2 children and 4 grandchildren in whom we delight. We have lived in Surrey since 1970, and our children were brought up here.
Before that we lived in Dulwich, as did my parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. I attended Dulwich Hamlet School and later taught there before marriage.
I have many wartime memories.
