My name is Don Jennings. I was called up in 1942 and did my 6 weeks training in Glasgow. In 1942 REME was being formed and I was assigned to REME, moving through various courses as a mechanic/craftsman in such places as Newcastle, Leeds and Croydon until I became a 1st Class Craftsman. As we get nearer to D Day My unit became 15th infantry troops workshops REME attached to 2nd ARMY.
I moved up the ranks eventually up to S/Sgt, before leaving the army in 1947.
I now live in Blackwater with my wife - who during the war had to go to London for War Work. She was able to live in Harlesden with an aunt, and after traing, she became a Capstan Operator, making parts for gliders.
We have 2 children and 3 grand-children.
